About Me: Your Compassionate Birth & Postpartum Doula

Hi there! I’m Mary Jane, a Birth Arts International-certified birth and postpartum doula serving families across Gulfport and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. My mission is simple: to empower you with knowledge, hold space for your unique journey, and help you navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with confidence—body, mind, and spirit.

My Approach

I believe birth is a sacred, transformative experience—one that should be informed, respected, and deeply supported. Whether you’re planning a home birth, hospital delivery, or VBAC, I provide:

  • Evidence-based education so you can make decisions that feel right for you.

  • Unwavering emotional & physical support during labor (yes, that includes hip squeezes, affirmations, and whatever else you need!).

  • Judgment-free advocacy—your birth, your way.

Specializing in Holistic & Cannabis-Inclusive Care

As both a doula and a holistic wellness advocate, I offer specialized support for parents interested in cannabis as a tool for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. This includes:

  • Guidance on harm reduction, safe use, and legal considerations in Mississippi.

  • Strain selection, dosing, and alternatives for nausea, pain, or anxiety.

  • Lactation-friendly cannabis education (because yes, you can make informed choices while breastfeeding!).

My goal isn’t to push an agenda—it’s to ensure you have accurate, compassionate information to make the best choices for your family.

Why I Do This Work

Witnessing Mississippi’s maternal health crisis and the lack of harm-reduction education inspired me to bridge doula care with compassionate cannabis guidance. Every family deserves evidence-based support—both in the delivery room and in their choices for safe, informed wellness.

Beyond the Birth Room

When I’m not doula-ing, you’ll find me practicing Reiki, studying herbalism, or soaking up the sunshine on Gulfport Beach with my family.

My Story

My journey into birth work began in my early twenties when I witnessed my sister's traumatic birth experience. Seeing how dismissed and powerless she felt in the hospital—despite being a nurse herself—planted the first seeds of my passion for birth justice. But it wasn't until my own pregnancy that I truly understood how broken our system was.

During my prenatal care here on the Gulf Coast, I was shocked when my OB rolled her eyes at my questions about natural pain management options. "Just get the epidural like everyone else," she said. That moment lit a fire in me—why were we treating birth like something to simply endure rather than actively participate in?

My research led me to cannabis as medicine during that pregnancy. Though I'd grown up with the typical "just say no" messaging, the clinical studies and ancestral wisdom I discovered told a different story. When I carefully used CBD to manage my severe morning sickness (after consulting my care team), it wasn't just physical relief I found—it was the realization that true informed consent changes everything.

After my son's empowering water birth (attended by an amazing doula!), I knew I needed to pay that support forward. I became certified through Birth Arts International, then dove deep into cannabis therapeutics—studying everything from endocannabinoid science to harm reduction frameworks.

Now, every time I attend a birth or counsel a parent about cannabis options, I remember my sister's experience, my own journey, and the hundreds of Mississippi families who deserve better. This work isn't just about births—it's about restoring autonomy, combating stigma, and creating a new model of care right here in our community.

. But it was Mississippi’s maternal health crisis that ignited my fire to become a doula.

When I learned our state has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the nation—with 60% of these deaths being preventable—I knew I had to take action. Too many parents face judgment instead of support when making difficult choices for their health.

I’ll never forget Sarah*, a postpartum mom in my community struggling with opioid dependence after a traumatic birth. Her doctor had abruptly cut off her prescription, leaving her in withdrawal while caring for a newborn. When she tearfully asked me about alternatives, we created a careful CBD tapering plan alongside her medical team. Watching her regain control of her recovery—without shame—changed everything for me.

"You were the first person who didn't treat me like a criminal," she told me. That moment crystalized why I do this work: real care means meeting parents where they are with science and compassion.

Now, my practice intentionally bridges the gaps in our system—offering both evidence-based birth support and cannabis harm-reduction education. Whether I’m helping a client navigate a VBAC, teaching about terpenes for morning sickness, or advocating for respectful postpartum care, my goal is the same: to empower Mississippi families with knowledge and unwavering support.

When I’m not attending births, you’ll find me leading Cannabis 101 workshops.
